Just eight miles north of Manchester and lying upon the banks of The River Irwell separating Radcliffe from Clifton and Farnworth, this 60-hectare site offers it’s visitors scenery, nature walks and mountain bike trails. A former colliery and railway station, that was once a vital link between Manchester, Accrington and Bacup, Outwood Country Park is now part of the impressive Irwell Sculpture Trail, that stretches between Salford and Bacup, and passes through Bury during its 30-mile hike.

With its impressive viaduct and visible remains of Ringley Road station, Outwood is steeped in history that can be traced back over 800 years. Read on to discover Outwood’s past and how this hidden gem played its part in the history of Radcliffe and continues to surprise visitors today.

Outwood Park is owned by Bury Council and this website has been funded by the Government's Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The fund was developed by Defra and its Arm's-Length Bodies. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England, the Environment Agency and Forestry Commission.
